The Story of LA Mushroom Lab

Welcome to LA Mushroom Lab, where we're changing the way you think about mushrooms. Our journey began with a simple idea: why not use waste products to grow high-quality gourmet mushrooms right here in Los Angeles? As a locally-owned business, we believe in supporting our community by providing sustainable, locally-sourced produce that's good for you and the environment.

Our process starts by collecting waste products such as coffee grounds or spent brewery grain from local businesses. We then use these materials to grow our mushrooms, which are carefully nurtured until they're ready to be harvested. The end result is a delicious and fresh mushroom that's unlike anything you'll find in a store.

At LA Mushroom Lab, we're passionate about sustainability and reducing waste. By repurposing waste products, we're helping to keep them out of landfills and instead using them to create something delicious and nutritious. Plus, our mushrooms are grown right here in Los Angeles, which means we're reducing our carbon footprint by minimizing transportation and supporting local businesses.

We believe that everyone deserves access to high-quality, locally-sourced produce, and that's why we're committed to providing our community with the best mushrooms around. Whether you're a foodie looking to experiment with new flavors, a health enthusiast seeking nutrient-rich foods, or simply someone who wants to support sustainable, locally-owned businesses, LA Mushroom Lab has something for you.

We work with local businesses in Los Angeles to repurpose products destined for a landfill into the the substrate (or food) that our mushrooms use to grow. We work with local coffee shops to collect used coffee grounds and local breweries to collect spent grains as the basis of all of our mushroom substrates. ABOUT ME

IMG_0362.heic

Hello everyone! My name is Ryan Hendrickson and I am the Chief Mushroom Officer of LA Mushroom Lab. In addition to running this business, I also work full-time for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a Planetary Protection Engineer. While my day job is all about keeping spacecraft clean and preventing unwanted microbial growth, I do the exact opposite at LA Mushroom Lab. My passion lies in sustainably cultivating and growing high-quality gourmet mushrooms for the local Los Angeles community.

I started LA Mushroom Lab as a way to support local businesses and increase the availability and locality of food. But more importantly, I wanted to do it sustainably by using waste products like coffee grounds and spent brewery grain as a substrate for growing our mushrooms.

I'm proud to offer a variety of gourmet mushrooms and sustainable-focused merchandise to our customers. At LA Mushroom Lab, we believe in providing high-quality products while also minimizing waste and reducing our environmental impact.
